About the Event
Spruce Bluff Preserve has two easy hiking trails with a total of 2.3 miles that wind through beautiful pine trees and wetlands.
Our first hike is to a historical site that is one of the largest AIS North American mounds in Florida. It dates back to 800 BC! The trail is mostly shaded by the dense forest. It includes two boardwalks that provide a beautiful view of a lake covered with lily pads. We saw many wood storks, herons and native birds there. The Indian mound is about 12’ tall and was once a dumping site for the Ais Indians.
The second path leads to a peaceful pioneer cemetery, river viewing area, and the remnants of an 1891settlement – a community that was wiped out by the Great Freeze of 1895.
We will meet in Palm City at 9:30 to carpool, as there is limited parking. The hikes are located…
